1. Act Quickly! Many carpet spills are easier to address when treated promptly. The longer a spill remains on the carpet, the more difficult it may become to remove. Carpet materials and stain-resist treatments can vary, and no carpet is completely stain proof.

2. Blot liquids with a dry, white, absorbent cloth or plain white paper towels (avoid printed materials).

3. Avoid scrubbing the area. Scrubbing may affect carpet fibers or spread the spill further into the carpet. Continue blotting with a dry cloth or paper towel until excess moisture has been absorbed. For semi-solid materials, gently lift debris with a spoon. Dry solids may be vacuumed after removal.

4. Pretest any spot removal product in a less visible area before applying it to the affected spot. Apply a small amount to the test area and check for any color transfer or changes to the carpet fibers.

5. Apply a small amount of the selected cleaning solution to a clean white cloth and work gently into the affected area.

6. Work from the outer edges of the spill toward the center to help minimize spreading. Continue blotting as needed.

7. Continue using the first cleaning solution as long as material continues transferring to the cloth. Additional cleaning products may not be necessary if the spill is responding to the initial solution.

8. Be patient. Some spots may require repeated applications and blotting to improve the appearance of the affected area.

9. Rinse the affected area thoroughly with cold water and blot dry to help remove remaining cleaning solution from the carpet fibers.

10. Apply a layer of white paper towels over the affected area and place a flat, heavy object on top to help absorb remaining moisture. Replace towels as needed while the carpet dries.
